Question: If children start as poor readers but then become better readers in their teens are they better readers than those that have always read a lot?
This is an interesting question. My guess in this case is that it just took these kids longer to get there, or something ‘clicked’ for them, or changed in their environment. Practise is really important for reading so it may be that those who have been reading well for longer and therefore perhaps reading more will be better readers. Importantly it really depends on he you define a good reader. Good at reading words? Fast? Understanding what they read?
