My Interview
-
What topics do you work on?
I work in child computer interaction, computer human interaction, persuasive games, and affective computing.
What methods do you use?
Experimental and quasi-experimental large scale studies usually using hierarchical linear modelling as I am interested in how kids work within organisations such as classrooms and schools.
Who was your favourite teacher?
Mrs. Sanderson was my fourth grade teacher who liked to dress up as famous scientists and let the students create Oprah style interviews with them. It was fun and amazingly informative.
Me and my work
I’m a learning scientist who researches the effects of video games on how kids think, feel and act. I am currently researching how games can be designed to make people more aware of social justice issues and how these games can effect behaviour and engagement.
Typical day
Everyday is different but usually I start the day by skipping rope for 30 minutes while I run through my schedule in my head. After arriving at work I have meetings with other lecturers, write for at least thirty minutes a day, and teach undergraduates and graduate students about games and learning.
