0 Question: Is there any research into the effectiveness of what teachers call 'differentiated' teaching? Does any of it suggest an optimal approach to teaching method? Iroise Dumontheil answered on 27 Apr 2015:
It seems there is not much research on differentiated teaching/instruction per se but about components of it, this is discussed for example in this article: http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/feb10/vol67/num05/Differentiated-Learning.aspx
It seems there are also issues regarding the assumptions teacher make to decide which child would fit in which category, as discussed here: http://hepg.org/hel-home/issues/27_3/helarticle/differentiated-instruction-reexamined_499
This paper from 2006 reviews the literature on differentiated teaching http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ854351.pdf
Similarly, this more recent paper from 2011 also reviews the literature http://www.aabri.com/manuscripts/11888.pdf
I am not an expert on this, but I hope these references will be useful to you!
